PMDD, Pregnancy and Maternal Mental Health: Live Q&A with Dr Claire Wilson and Annie Belasco from PANDAS
Held on 25th Feb 2021
In this live conversation with Dr Claire Wilson and Annie Belasco from PANDAS Foundation, we discussed PMDD, pregnancy and maternal mental health.
We explored important questions like – is pregnancy a trigger for PMDD? Will my PMDD symptoms be worse after pregnancy? If I have PMDD, is my risk of developing pre/postnatal depression higher? How do I know if I’ve got postnatal depression? I think I might have postnatal depression, what should I do?
Annie is Head of Charity at PANDAS Foundation, a UK charity providing trusted support service for families and their networks who may be suffering with perinatal mental illness, including prenatal (antenatal) and postnatal depression. Annie has a background in HR operations and is also a writer, speaker and published mental health author. Annie has lived experience of perinatal mental illness.
Claire has a special interest in maternal mental health and sits on the Advisory Board of the International Federation of Wellbeing in Pregnancy and the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Network on Perinatal Depression. She studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, where she also obtained an intercalated BSc in Psychological Medicine with First Class Honours. After finishing her foundation years on the Academic Foundation Programme and her first year of psychiatry training in Glasgow, she moved to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to complete the remainder of her core psychiatry training and take up an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship, based in the Section of Women’s Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London.
