Returning to work after PMDD absence with Dr Jo Yarker

Held on 10th March 2021

In this informative webinar I spoke to Occupational Psychologist Jo Yarker about returning to work following PMDD sickness absence.

Lots of us have to take time out of work because of PMDD, ranging from the odd day here and there to months or even years – often as a result of debilitating symptoms that can make work impossible, or following surgery. We considered some of the challenges of returning to work after periods of absence and what we can do to cultivate a positive return, without compromising our health and wellbeing.

Jo is so passionate about understanding what we can do to foster fulfilling, healthy and productive work, particularly under times of challenge such as when we are unwell or under pressure. Jo has been working on a number of projects that aim to understand the impact of workplace design on our health and wellbeing. Working with colleagues Rachel Lewis and Emma Donaldson-Feilder and a network of academics in leading UK Universities, her research has been sponsored by the HSE, CIPD, Mental Health Foundation, British Occupational Health Research Foundation and Cancer Research UK. This research has been translated into guides, toolkits and metrics that organisations can use to help organisations, managers, teams and individuals better manage their work. Her work has been published in academic and practitioner spaces. Alongside her role at Affinity Health at Work, Jo also works at Birkbeck, University of London where she leads the Professional Doctorate in Organizational Psychology. As well as her lecturing, research and consultancy work, Jo holds voluntary roles with the British Psychological Society.

This webinar will help you to better understand and make sense of some of the work-related challenges and experiences you may have encountered yourself, especially if you’ve had to take time out of work because of PMDD. It will no doubt provide comfort, support and validation knowing you’re not alone on your PMDD journey, whilst at the same time providing you with helpful practical guidance and advice from a leading expert.
